John and Abigail Adams Scholarship winners announced
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, 46 Old Rochester Regional seniors were awarded the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. The scholarship is given to seniors who earned scores of advanced and proficient on the mathematics and English sections of the grade 10 MCAS exam, and whose combined scores were in the top 25 percent of the district. Winners of the scholarship receive free tuition for eight undergraduate semesters at a Massachusetts public university or college.
Also honored were seniors who earned National Merit Scholar awards for their scores on the 2013 PSAT. Out of the 1.5 million students who took the exam, Morgan Browning, Steven Durocher, Michael Kassabian and Kyle Sherman scored in the top 5 percent of all test takers. Andrea Harris was a National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist, meaning she is among the top 1.1 percent of all participants.
“These are the students that don’t like missing class,” said Principal Mike Devoll as an apology for the award ceremony being held during the school day. Devoll allowed students to mingle after the ceremony to enjoy their accomplishments and relax before returning to the class.
