MATTAPOISETT — Sandwiches will be made and blankets will be spread out on the Mattapoisett Congregational Church’s lawn on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. for the church’s annual homecoming and picnic.

The Tri-Town community is invited to join the church for a “Blessing of the Backpacks” for children returning to school.

The service will be followed by a picnic lunch. Bring your own food.

Traditionally, representatives from the police and fire departments are recognized for their caring service to the people of Mattapoisett.

Following worship, there will be games for children, registration for Sunday School and ice cream provided by Oxford Creamery.

Bringing a lawn chair is recommended.
