Kids enjoy a week without school

There were lots of events for kids over the spring vacation, including an island-themed getaway at the Mattapoisett Museum on Thursday. Children sampled a Hawaiian coconut dessert and made hibiscus flowers out of coffee filters.
Phoebe Butler, who often goes by the more fanciful name Grandma Poppy, also made an appearance on Thursday. With a violin, a cello, and a bass, Grandma Poppy mixed musical stories with classical pieces at Plumb Library in Rochester. A lifelong musician, she encouraged kids to practice, practice, practice!
"It doesn't matter how tall or short you are, you have to practice," she said.
