Kids 'go green' at Environmental Fair

Apr 26, 2013

Center School students showed off their environmental knowledge on Thursday night at the fifth annual Environment Fair.

The kids studied various aspects of the environment and how to protect it for several months, incorporating science, math, art, music, and writing said Principal Rose Bowman. “They become so much more aware of their role in the environment,” said Bowman.

For the fair, each grade prepared a display around a theme.

At the first graders’ display, students provided helpful tips on protecting turtles, penguins, and whales in the ocean. One student said, “When you go fishing and leave your stuff there, it can get stuck on animals.”

Third grade students explained the water cycle through PowerPoint presentations they created themselves.

Koby Crowe showed off his slideshow, complete with graphics and sound effects. Koby said he’d studied evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and infiltration before but runoff was something new he learned this year.

“I only thought there were four stages, but there are five,” he said.
