Land trust gives back to Old Hammondtown

The Mattapoisett Land Trust Education Committee has donated picnic tables to Old Hammondtown School.
The school has an outdoor garden that was started in 2007, and the school has been working closely with the land trust ever since. Sixth grade teacher Ben Squire and OHS assistant principal Kevin Tavares work in collaboration with the trust to create opportunities for students.
Fourth through sixth graders can be part of a landscaping club and work out in the garden in the courtyard.
"The kids have so few opportunities to be outside, so to have an outdoor classroom is wonderful," Mattapoisett Land Trust director Ellen Flynn said.
