Laura (Mott) Zompa, 91

Laura (Mott) Zompa, 91, of Mattapoisett, MA sadly passed away on August 9, 2023, at Tobey Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. She was the wife of the late Ralph C. Zompa and daughter of the late Frank J. and Mary B. (Silva) Mott.

She was born in Marion, MA and lived most of her life in Mattapoisett. After receiving her High School Certificate, she went on to study Nursing at Bristol Community College. In her early years she worked in New Bedford at Aerovox Mill and then in the fishing industry. She would later go on to have a cleaning business and before retiring, worked at a nursing home providing private care to individuals.

She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and to know her, was to love her. She enjoyed traveling, cooking for her family, going out to eat and ending it with a trip to Dairy Queen for ice-cream. She was well known for her famous carrot cake.

Mrs. Zompa was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church and well-loved member of her community. She was the heart and soul of her family and will always hold a place in their hearts.

Survivors include her 3 daughters, Mariah Haven of Fall River, Brenda Christen (husband Theodore Christen), and Mary Ellen Nunes, all of New Bedford; two sons, Michael Nunes (wife Deborah Nunes) of California and Manuel “Binky” Rozario (wife Maria Rozario) of New Bedford; brother, Robert Mott of New Mexico; two sisters, Janet Gross of Washington, D.C. and Donna Ponte of New Bedford; and 32 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; her son, Samuel Clifford Nunes; her daughter, Rose Marie Pollard; her 3 brothers, Richard Mott, Raymond Mott, and Frank J. Mott, Jr.

Visiting hours will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Wareham Village Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 5 Center Street, Wareham, MA, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High Street, Wareham, MA.

Thereafter, a Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at 552 County Road, East Wareham, MA.
