MATTAPOISETT — In another iteration of its speaker’s forum series, the Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee will hold a conversation regarding affordable housing, property taxes and ideas for easing the tax burden for town residents.
The forum will be held Sunday, March 24 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Mattapoisett Free Public Library.
Speaking will be former Mattapoisett Administrator of Assessing Kathleen Costello, who “brings a wealth of experience to the discussion of affordable housing and what we as a community can do to make it happen for our young and aging residents,” according to a Mattapoisett Democratic Town Committee press release.
Costello, the executive director for the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers, will be joined by Town Administrator Mike Lorenco, who will share what Mattapoisett is doing to keep property taxes “at a reasonable level” while ensuring the town’s services are “adequately funded,” a press release said.
Family, friends and neighbors are encouraged to attend with questions to learn more about how property taxes are calculated and what can be done to offset them. Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
