Letter to the Editor on Marion’s article 37

May 11, 2019

To Marion voters:

Please vote in favor of Article 37 at Marion’s Town Meeting.

This article is for the walking path along Point Road from the fire station to Jenna Drive. It will give a safe place to stroll or bike for 4,000 feet, connecting with the already-existing Creek Road path, and add a big chunk to our overall plan for safe recreational paths in town.

Walking is the number one recreational activity in Marion, and has been first in surveys consistently since 1994. Here’s to safe walking.

Article 37 has been endorsed by the Board of Selectmen, Police Chief, Planning Board, Conservation Commission, Trees and Parks, Stewards of Open Space, the Sippican Lands Trust, the Pathways Committee, and last but not least an enthusiastic group of high schoolers.

The project’s funding comes from the Community Preservation Committee funds with no tax increase.

It is long overdue. The plan was approved by Town Meeting in 2005. Spread the word and let’s all vote this a resounding yes.
