Marion police said a 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon for attempting to use counterfeit $20 bills at Top of the Hill Liquors.

Ronald F. Morrell III faces two charges: uttering a counterfeit bill and possession of a counterfeit note.

According to Police Chief Lincoln Miller, Morrell tried to make a purchase at the store with a counterfeit $20, which employees recognized as fake. Morrell then allegedly attempted to use additional bills that police said were also counterfeit.

Miller said Morrell left the store when police were notified.

After a brief search of the area, officers located Morrell based on a description provided by store employees.

Miller said four counterfeit $20 bills were seized.

“The suspect did not want to tell officers where the counterfeit bills came from,” Miller said.

Morrell’s arraignment in Wareham District Court was scheduled for Thursday.
