Marion Art Center announces new exhibits

Aug 12, 2014

The Marion Art Center’s new exhibit, “Town and Country” will open Friday, Aug. 22. The exhibit features paintings by artists Robert Abele III, Sarah Brown, Sharlie Sudduth and Jack Wheatley. A reception honoring the artists and their guests will be held on Friday, Aug. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Of the four artists, two are residents of the tri-town area. Brown of Rochester has been painting watercolors of the South Coast since the 1970s. She has exhibited her paintings in galleries on Cape Cod, in Boston and Chicago. Locally, Brown paints children’s Adirondack chairs, tables and stools.

Sudduth, a Marion resident, began painting 18 years ago after retiring.

Of her work, Sudduth said, “I start with a feeling of beauty about the places I am in and just enjoy the process of drawing and finding my way into what I think I want to paint.”

Both the Cecil Clark Davis Gallery and the Patsy Francis Gallery will be filled with their oils, watercolors and pastels depicting landscapes and cityscapes. The show will run until Sept. 27.

The Marion Art Center is located at 80 Pleasant St. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is free.
