Marion Art Center features ‘Fiber Fusion’ exhibit
Event Date:
MARION — Weaving, quilting and collage are just a few of the techniques featured at the Marion Art Center’s newest exhibit, Fiber Fusion.
Showcasing the work of five artists, the exhibit features pieces done in mixed media textile and fiber materials.
The artists, Christine Anderson, Carol Flax, Lorraine Gentile Haynes and Toni Newhall, craft eclectic pieces of art that demonstrate depth in their variety of textures, materials and functions.
Weaver and fiber artist Christine Anderson’s work includes “intricate tapestries of local landscapes and mixed media pieces” inspired by cycles of life in nature.
Cape Cod artist Carol Flax describes her process as “painting with paper,” as she uses colors and textures taken from magazines, calendars, catalogs and more to create collages inspired by her travels and the natural beauty of Cape Cod.
Lorraine Gentile Haynes’ work combines “line, shape form texture, space, value and color” and is influenced by the numerous techniques she accumulated across her career including metal work and printmaking.
Lisa Horton’s work is inspired by the phrase, “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.” Her mixed media pieces and collages are adorned with “castoff items and organic materials” such as buttons, beads and bits of jewelry.
Toni Newhall celebrates the idea of “women’s work” in her art where she creates two and three dimensional pieces that are often inspired by nature.
The exhibit will open on Saturday, Feb. 22 with an artists’ reception held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The final day to see the Fiber Fusion exhibit will be Friday, March 28.
