Marion closes parking lots at three beaches

Apr 3, 2020

MARION — The town will be closing parking lots at Silvershell Beach, Planting Island and the beach at Oakdale Avenue will be closed temporarily to encourage coronavirus social distancing.

The order became effective on April 3, and will be in place until further notice, Town Administrator Jay McGrail and Health Director Karen Walega said. The town officials made the decision based on Governor Baker’s April 2 order that all beach parking lots managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation should close to reduce the number of people at beaches.

Public parking at Island Wharf and Old Landing will remain open.

The officials said that Marion’s social distancing guidelines have been extended through the month of April, and said it is “vitally important for people to stop congregating outside.”
