Marion concert to feature songs of peace, hope
MARION — It’s safe to say it’s been a fractious year, or at least a fractious month of November, what with a presidential election.
A Tri-Town chorus will be offering an elixir of sorts to that contentiousness to begin the holiday season.
The Sippican Choral Society will be performing its traditional annual holiday concert Sunday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. at Tabor Academy’s Wickenden Chapel.
The program is titled “Songs of Peace and Hope” and will contain an Austrian lullaby, an African Noel, a Venezuelan carol and more songs that convey the eponymous sentiment.
“We need a little hope, and we sure would like some peace,” Sippican Choral Society President Kelli McSweeny said.
Other pieces to be performed include a song called “Shalom,” the Hebrew word for peace, and a song of peace titled “Prayer of the Children.”
McSweeny said the concert is a “perfect way to begin the holiday season” and “will put people in good spirits.”
“I think we'll send them out the door feeling pretty good about their fellow person,” McSweeny said.
The Sippican Choral Society will enter its 60th year in 2025. The choir is made up of singers from Marion and several other surrounding towns.
“I just think when people sing together, there's a bond that they create,” McSweeny said. “I think that's what's really nice about singing in a choral group and particularly at the holiday season. It just feels good.”
Tickets for “Songs of Peace and Hope” are $20 for general admission and $10 for students. The concert is free for children under 14.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the Marion General Store, Isabelle’s in Mattapoisett, Symphony Music Shop in Dartmouth, from chorus members and at the door.
