Marion to consider Assistant Town Administrator role

Jan 7, 2020

MARION — Town Administrator Jay McGrail presented Selectmen with a job description for a new Assistant Town Administrator role at a Jan. 7 meeting. And he already had someone in mind for the role.

That would be current Finance Director, Judy Mooney. McGrail envisions the position as a Finance Director and Assistant Town Administrator position.

“She does a fantastic job, and deserves acknowledgement,” McGrail said of Mooney.

Selectmen were not asked to vote on the new position yet, just to consider it for the next meeting.

Mooney is also currently serving as the Marion Selectmen’s representative on a selection committee to replace Old Rochester Regional School District Superintendent Doug White, who plans to retire in June.

Other appointments included discussion of appointing Cynthia Callow to the Zoning Board of Appeals (a move that Selectmen agreed upon, but are waiting until the next meeting to finalize).

Selectmen also interviewed Michael Moore and Emily Chandler for alternate positions on the Marine Resources Commission, and seemed in favor of creating another alternate position so that both can serve on the board. One of the two will be appointed to a six month position on the board, at the Selectmen’s next meeting.
