Marion Finance Director to retire, residents sought for hiring committee
MARION — Longtime Marion Finance Director and Town Accountant Judy Mooney will retire at the end of the year, announced Marion Town Administrator Geoff Gorman at an Aug. 15 Select Board meeting.
Mooney, who has served the Town of Marion for over 20 years, will leave “very large shoes to fill,” said Gorman.
According to Gorman, 12 applicants have already been reviewed for the position, with six applicants passing the initial interview with Gorman and Mooney.
A committee will handle the hiring process from this point forward, said Gorman.
Select Board Chair Toby Burr was appointed as the board’s representative, and two members of the public will make up the remainder of the board.
Any Marion residents who are interested in being on the hiring committee can fill out an application on the town’s website at, marionma.gov. Applications will be accepted until Aug. 23.
“We’re moving as fast as we possibly can,” said Gorman. “We’d like to get somebody to shadow [Mooney] for as long as we can.”
“Every day I ask Judy to stay a little longer and she always says ‘no,’” he joked.
