Marion Fourth of July fireworks in danger again

May 9, 2016

The Marion Fireworks Committee is asking for the public’s help or there may be no display this Independence Day.

The original deadline for donations for the annual fireworks at Silvershell Beach was May 1, but more than a week after that date, the committee has only taken in $6,600 of the needed $50,000.

The committee extended the fundraiser to Sunday, May 15 in the hopes that the remaining funds will come in.

“I'm sorry to say that unless we have a miracle happen by Sunday, we may have to cancel,” said Donna Hemphill of Marion Recreation.

This is familiar territory for the Fireworks Committee as funds were scarce two years ago, resulting in a one-year hiatus of the fireworks. They were back last summer and so was the crowd at Silvershell Beach.

Anyone who has enjoyed the fireworks in the past is asked to contribute to this year’s event, and all amounts are welcome and are tax deductible.

Donations may be mailed to the Marion Fireworks Committee, 13 Atlantis Drive, Marion, Massachusetts 02738. Any questions feel free to contact us at 774-217-8355 or fireworks@marionrecreation.com.
