Marion General Store officially opens

May 11, 2019

MARION — Several enthusiastic residents gathered outside the Marion General Store to witness the business’s grand re-opening on May 11.

After three months of renovation, Jack Cheney, the owner of the store, along with his daughter, Whitney Cheney-Wynne, opened the store by cutting a thin blue ribbon stretching across the entrance.

The Sippican Historical Society wanted to preserve a piece of Marion history of 220 years by helping raise money for the renovation, including $200,000 donated by four citizens.

The Cheney family and private donations from the community also contributed to funding the project.

The store offers wine and spirits, gourmet food, deli, desserts, produce, groceries and more.

Business hours are Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
