Marion given plaque for quality of asphalt pavement
MARION — The Marion Department of Public Works was honored at a Tuesday, May 21 meeting of the Marion Select Board.
The department earned an award from the National Asphalt Pavement Association in 2023 for quality in construction and was given a plaque to commemorate the award.
According to the organization’s website, the National Asphalt Pavement Association “is the only trade association that exclusively represents the interests of the asphalt producer and contractor on the national level with Congress, government agencies, and other national trade and business organizations.”
According to Marion Town Administrator Geoff Gorman, the award was given to 10 municipalities in the state of Massachusetts.
Gorman said the quality of construction award “is one of the most highly-regarded road construction awards” when it was announced in December of 2023 that Marion had won the award.
Marion Highway and Parks Supervisor Jody Dickerson was present to accept the award alongside Department of Public Works Director Becky Tilden and Marion Engineering Director Meghan Davis.
Asphalt paving done to County Road in 2023 earned the department the award.
According to the National Asphalt Pavement Association, quality in construction awards recognize highway pavement projects based on quantifiable data across four categories.
