Marion Institute hires new executive director

Jun 3, 2015

Janet Milkman has been hired to fill the vacant executive director position at the Marion Institute, the Institute’s President Michael Baldwin announced on June 2.

Founded in 1993, the institute is located on Spring Street and has a global and national reach with programs in Cambodia, India and the South Coast. Developing projects that address the root cause of issues related to health and healing, sustainability, green economics, environmental education and more is the Institute’s mission.

Milkman, a Massachusetts native, served as executive director of the Delaware Valley Green Building starting in 2009 before stepping down last year. Located in Philadelphia, the organization promotes Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The program is designed to create environmentally sound communities and buildings.

During her tenure she brought more awareness to LEED certification.

“Janet possesses a deep experience in non-profit management, including fundraising for foundations and corporations…and has been a leader in energy and environmental policy at the state and local level for twenty five years,” Baldwin said via press release.

Milkman’s first official day as executive director is June 8.

Former Executive Director Desa Van Laarhoven stepped down on Jan. 1. Van Laarhoven worked for nine and half years at the Institute, eight of which she spent as executive director.
