Marion Institute starts search for new director
The search for a new executive director to lead the Marion Institute is now underway.
Michael Baldwin, the institute’s president and co-founder, announced that the position’s job description is available at www.marioninstitute.org.
Founded in 1993, the institute is located on Spring Street and has a global and national reach with programs in Cambodia, India and the South Coast. Developing projects that address the root cause of issues related to health and healing, sustainability, green economics, environmental education and more is the Institute’s mission.
According to the job description, qualified candidates should be prepared to bring professional leadership and management to the Institute, which has a yearly operating budget of $1 million.
At least 10 years of experience showing excellent management skills, preferably with a volunteer-based group, is also a plus. The new director will be expected to serve as an ambassador, fundraiser and in other roles.
A complete description is available on the Institute’s website. The deadline to apply is Feb. 2.
The position was left vacant when former Executive Director Desa Van Laarhoven stepped down on Jan. 1. Van Laarhoven worked for nine and half years at the Institute, eight of which she spent as executive director.
She now works full time at the Round Bend Farm. Located in South Dartmouth, the 40-acre working farm is an education center that teaches visitors about sustainable agricultural.
The Marion Institute purchased the farm in 2013. On Jan. 1, it was sold to the Bromley Charity Trust.
