Kevin Blanchette, a 47-year-old Marion man, is dead following an apparent boating accident in Sippican Harbor, according to Marion Police.

According to the police, Blanchette and his companion were on Blanchette's 20-foot boat in the outer harbor when he dropped something overboard and went over the side of the boat after attempting to get it.

The Marion Harbormaster was alerted by another boater to the incident around 2:43 p.m.

Blanchette and his companion were then brought to Nye's Wharf in Marion and Blanchette was brought to Tobey hospital in Wareham and later air-lifted to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.  Blanchette was pronounced dead late Tuesday night.

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
