Marion man fatally injured in Route 6 motorcycle crash

A 22-year-old Marion man died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed on Route 6 in Marion around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.

The crash occurred in the area of Hermitage Road. Police said the victim, identified as Tyler Ayan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said that Ayan, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling east on Route 6 when the motorcycle struck the curb of the sidewalk on the eastbound side on the road, then struck a utility pole. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by officers Kris Smith and Jeffrey Habicht, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police.

Ayan graduated from Old Rochester Regional High School, according to his obituary. He received a Bachelor of Science in Plant Sciences from the University of Rhode Island last month.

Route 6 was closed in both directions for about three hours while the crash was investigated. In addition to Marion Police, Marion Fire and EMS responded to the accident. MassDOT assisted at the scene.
