Marion Police investigate suspicious activity on the Sippican School roof
After discovering damages on the Sippican School roof, Old Rochester Regional Facilities Director Steve Murphy says the Marion Police Department is investigating possible suspicious activity.
On February 1, Murphy informed the members of the Marion School Committee that an “anvil-sized tear, dragging marks and footprints” were found on the roof of the school.
“It’s a security matter and a safety matter,” Murphy said. “We informed the Marion Police Department and they, as well as the staff at Sippican School, are monitoring the situation.”
The damage was discovered by Murphy and his team while they were conducting repairs on the roof last month. Due to the “suspicious nature” of the footprints, Murphy said he and his team have ruled out the possibility of the damage being caused by the maintenance team or by the weather.
Murphy assured the Committee members that all safety precautions have been taken and that he does not perceive any threat to the students and the staff of Sippican School at this time.
Murphy said he will keep the members of the School Committee informed as the investigation progresses.
