Marion receives $71,000 in coronavirus aid

MARION — Thanks to Plymouth County’s handling of the funds it received from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, the town will receive $71,153.57 in reimbursement for covid-related expenditures.

This is more than what other towns in counties outside of Plymouth receive because the state is not doling out funds to towns within the county.

This is the first of four rounds of grant reimbursements that Marion can apply for, and it can receive up to $655,000.

Their next request is for over $250,000 to cover costs like personal protective equipment and costs for students as they return to school during a global pandemic.

Town Administrator Jay McGrail thanked town Finance Director Judy Mooney for putting “millions” of hours in filling out forms and attending conferences to figure out how she can secure grant funding.

“Kudos to her, she took it on all on her own,” McGrail said.
