MARION — The Sippican Woman’s Club of Marion recently awarded $11,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors who live in Marion and an additional $3,000 in continuing education scholarships to Marion residents in post-secondary education.

Funds raised for these scholarships come from the club’s annual Holiday House Tour that was held in early December.

Old Rochester seniors Ella Bartholomew, Elizabeth Houdelette, Gavin Martin and Emily Wyman and Katelyn Craig, who graduated from Tabor Academy, received the graduating senior scholarships.

Wyman also received the Lu Chevrier Award, which goes to a graduating senior who wants to teach or has taught in some manner, including tutoring or helping another student. The Lu Chevrier Award honors Lu Chevier, who was the president of the Sippican Woman’s Club from 1996 to 1999.

Kate Feeney, Sydney Feeney, Jacksen Martin, Laura Pardo, Lauren Rapoza, Marianna Sudofsky, Mason Tucker and Maxwell Tucker were the recipients of the continuing education scholarships.

The Alice Ryder Book Award, which is presented to the highest-ranking eighth grade English student from Marion at Old Rochester Regional Junior High School was awarded to Sophie Zhou, who received a $50 gift card to Barnes & Noble. This award is named after Alice Ryder, who served as president of the Sippican Woman’s Club for three terms and wrote “Lands of Sippican,” which tells the history of when Marion, Rochester and Mattapoisett were one community known as Rochester.
