Marion School Committee members step down

May 8, 2015

May 6 was the last Marion School Committee for members Joseph Scott and Jay Pateakos, who previously announced they would not see re-election this year.

Scott, a committee member for 10 years, thanked administrators for their hard work to improve Sippican School.

Speaking to Principal Lyn Rivet, he said, “You came in during a difficult transition. You’ve gotten our children to respond and become better students.”

At the start of the meeting, Scott and Pateakos were presented with books that will be donated to the school library in their honor. The practice is a longstanding one for outgoing members.

“This is in recognition of your dedicated service to the children of Marion,” member Christine Winters said while handing them the books. “It’s a volunteer labor of love for the people who contribute.”

Scott also thanked “the people of Marion for letting me represent the community.”

He encouraged residents to vote in the May 15 election where three candidates are seeking the two seats.

“There are three very good candidates running for the positions and that’s unusual,” Scott said. “Other towns have had difficulty in finding people to run.”
