Marion Select Board begins plans for town’s 175th anniversary
MARION — Founded in 1852, the town of Marion will turn 175 in 2027. In preparation for the town’s anniversary, the Marion Select Board discussed creating a committee to organize events on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Potential events could include a time capsule parade and fireworks, as well as a collaboration between community organizations, such as the Marion Police Brotherhood, the Marion Firefighters Association and the Marion Natural History Museum.
The goal, Town Administrator Executive Assistant Donna Hemphill said, is to “really kind of bring it all together and make it town wide … and celebrate all year — not just a one time event.”
“We would love to have the community involved in any aspect that we could have them,” she said.
Potential ways to fund the anniversary celebration could include using the town’s celebration budget, which is often used for parades and events and requesting an increase in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
“I know it seems far away, [but] 2027 will be here before we know it,” Hemphill said.
