May 8, 2023

MARION — Marion voters packed into the Sippican School multi-purpose room on Monday, May 8 and had their say on 34 items on the 2024 Spring Town Meeting agenda.

Every item on the agenda was passed by the town.

Voters approved Marion’s $27,516,635 operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024, but not without raising questions with some line items proposed by the town.

The budget included items that generated questions from voters including a $466,078 allotment to Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School and a new $72,029 police cruiser.

Voters also approved over $2.04 million of capital expenditures which included a $1.2 million ladder truck for the Marion Fire Department, a police security camera upgrade, a VCT floor tile replacement in Sippican School as well as various items to be used by the town water and sewer departments.

Items nine through 21, which all addressed the use of Community Preservation Act funds, generated questions and comments from voters, but were all passed.

Finally, “housekeeping items,” which included the approval of Marion’s upcoming town election on Friday, May 12 at the Benjamin Cushing Community Center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., ended the night.
