Marion youth receives Girl Scouting’s highest honor
MARION — Christina Fisher from Marion has received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn, which is presented to girls in high school who create sustainable change on a community or world issue.
She received the award for her creation of additional orientation programs for new students at Old Rochester Regional Junior High School.
Her project reflected her concern that when students from three elementary schools in three neighboring towns combine to start seventh grade at a new regional junior high school, students often feel alone, lost, and awkward,
Her project addressed this issue by creating three supplemental orientation activities for incoming students to get to know each other before the start of school and form new friendships.
Scouts who earn this honor invest hundreds of hours creating lasting impact on issues important to them. As they take action to transform their world, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and world need, according to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.
