Master Plan survey moves ahead
The Planning Board is preparing a list of questions for a community survey that will help create the town’s master plan.
With guidance from the Southeastern Regional Planning & Economic Development District, board members debated how to roll out a town-wide survey at their Aug. 5 meeting.
Sandy Conaty presented board members with sample surveys from Fairhaven, North Attleborough, and Westport for review. Conaty is a comprehensive planning manager with the development district. She recommended having no more than 20 questions on the survey, which is designed to determine residents’ opinions on open space, recreation, housing, development, cultural affairs, and other issues.
A public forum is typically part of the survey process, Conaty said. The forum may be held before or after the survey is distributed.
Board Chair Patricia McArdle said board members would review the surveys to formulate questions. Those survey questions should be ready in time for the board’s Aug. 19 meeting. At the meeting, the draft will be given to Conaty.
Committee members said outreach efforts through local media and municipal channels will ask residents to complete the survey once it’s finalized.
McArdle said this is the start of a long process.
“We want to get going, but this seems very overwhelming,” she said.
