Aug 24, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — On Sept. 1, the Rev. Jeffrey Paull Cave, honorary assistant at the Church of Our Savior in Atlanta, Georgia, will officiate at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.

For 135 years, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Mattapoisett has held summer-only services for parishioners at the historic church next to the Town Beach.

Each Sunday through Labor Day, visiting clergy from Massachusetts and beyond conduct services, using the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, at 8 and 10 a.m.

To mark the end of summer, St. Philip’s will also hold an old-fashioned hymn sing at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Cave will provide the historic background of many of the hymns and will accompany on the church organ. Requests are also welcome.

Cave is also the author of “The Church by the Town Beach,” available at the Town Wharf General Store. A reception will follow the hymn sing in the church’s side yard.
