Mattapoisett Congregational Church to celebrate Advent

Nov 18, 2021

The Mattapoisett Congregational Church is inviting the community to several special events to kick off the Advent season, beginning with a beautiful “Hanging of the Greens” service on Sunday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. Members will present symbols of Advent such as wreaths and poinsettias onto the altar.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the church will hold its holiday fair in Reynard Hall. The fair will feature baked goods, handmade craft items including knitted hats, sweaters and shawls, jewelry and other Christmas décor.

The “White Gifts Pageant,” which celebrates the birth of Jesus, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11 in Reynard Hall. At 4 p.m., people are encouraged to bring and donate gift cards for families in the area who need them. Those interested in donating a gift card should contact the church office by emailing mattcongchurch@gmail.com or calling 508-758-2671 for more details.

A Christmas Cantata by the Mattapoisett Congregational Church choir and performers from Seaglass Theater will be held on Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Every Sunday in Advent will be celebrated with the lighting of the Advent candle. On Christmas Eve, all the candles will be lit.

The church’s Christmas Eve Family Service will be held at 5 p.m., and a Candlelight Service with a performance by the Harper and the Minstrel will be held at 10 p.m. All are invited to celebrate the Advent season at Mattapoisett Congregational Church.
