MATTAPOISETT _ Mattapoisett Council on Aging, 17 Barstow St., has scheduled several upcoming programs.

Effective Communication, Talking About Dementia will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18. More than just talking and listening, effective communication is also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice and body language.

A movie and pizza event will be held at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26. Pizza will be served at $1 a slice. The movie, “Respect,’’ which follows the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from childhood to stardom. Registration is required.

Discounted tickets to certain Zeiterion performances are available through Coastline Services. 

A van will take seniors to open rehearsals for the Boston Symphony Orchestra Jan. 20, March 3 and April 14. Cost is $10. Symphony Hall requires proof of Covid vaccination and masks must be worn at all times.

A monthly art history program will be offered by art historian Jill Sanford. 

On Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 12:30 p.m, the program will be Early American Art: Revolutionary Images.

A painting party will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9. The cost is $20, which includes all supplies. 

No experience is required. Program is open to anyone 18 and older. 

The Mattapoisett Council on Aging Outreach Program provides information and referrals, as well as direct services, for Mattapoisett residents 60 and older.

Services can include but are not limited to: Friendly Connections, home visits, housing, fuel/utilities assistance, advocacy, well-being referrals, Files of Life, free safety services and telephone reassurance programs.
