Mattapoisett Council on Aging improves outreach, transportation services
Marking her one-year anniversary as Director of the Mattapoisett Council on Aging, Jackie Coucci said she’s seen a lot of development.
Coucci updated Selectmen on Tuesday about the Council’s progress since she took the helm.
Increasing transportation services has been one of the biggest pushes, said Coucci.
“People can call 48 hours in advance, as long as a driver is available, and people can get transportation,” said Coucci.
For $1, people can use the service for locations in Mattapoisett. Extended trips to Dartmouth’s mall area and Wareham Crossing are also available.
“If you lose your license or can’t drive anymore, we can get you there,” said Coucci.
For those who have been unable to get around and visit friends, Coucci said the transportation services are a positive addition.
“Little wins like that can build people’s confidence.”
Coucci said the Council has plans to extend its outreach for homebound individuals.
“People don’t realize that there are a lot of people who are in their homes and they need access and support,” she said.
Offering new classes has also been a focus for Coucci, who is working with local colleges to increase the Council’s educational programming.
She admitted that wireless Internet service in the center could improve the program.
“There’s no reason we can’t help with that, if it helps bring in more variety,” said Selectmen Chair Jordan Collier.”
Coucci told Selectmen that she was glad to be at the Council. “This is a good fit. I can’t imagine having better people to work with,” she said.
Selectman Paul Silva told Coucci, “You had big shoes to fill and you did a good job with that.”
