Mattapoisett drafts new entertainment license
Mattapoisett officials are creating a comprehensive entertainment license, and are seeking input from residents.
Police Chief Mary Lyons drafted the rules and regulations and discussed them with Selectmen on Tuesday night.
With sections on safety, special events, and business policies, Lyons said, “It pretty much follows the law.”
The one area that drew question was the section on noise. Currently, "unreasonable noise" is defined as any noise audible at 100 feet and any amplified noise audible at 50 feet.
Selectmen were unsure if the noise regulations would meet the need for the town. Selectman Tyler Macallister questioned if the distances should be switched. Chair Jordan Collyer said, “We know we’d have a problem come Memorial Day. The YMCA is another issue. You can hear the YMCA as clear as day from the wharf.”
Selectman Paul Silva suggested seeking input from the community as well as local businesses.
“I don’t think it’s anyone’s intent to put something in the license that jeopardizes [a business] existence,” he said.
The draft will be available on Mattapoisett’s website for two weeks.
