Mattapoisett farm gets warning letter

Jan 10, 2017

Following several incidents of animals escaping Wyandotte Farm, Mattapoisett Animal Control Officer Kathy Massey submitted a formal letter to notify owner Mike King of concerns at the Route 6 business.

Massey cites four incidents in 2016 in which the farm's animals broke free. Most recently, on Dec. 8, nine goats got out of their fence: Two ended up standing on Route 6 in front of the farm while seven others traveled through the woods to a beach community off Angelica Avenue.

In Massey's letter, issued Dec. 20, she says when the animals' end up on town and state roads it poses a “serious danger.”

Additionally, Massey wrote that the animals are not properly contained on the farm.

“My inspection of your animal fencing and impoundments shows that they are inadequate to properly restrain and keep your animals,” reads the letter. “You must take immediate measures to remediate this situation.”

According to Town Administrator Mike Gagne, “should further instances happen then the documentation is there to take appropriate statutory action.”
