Mattapoisett Library to host teen crafts, movie night this summer

Jun 27, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Public Library is hosting Bingo for its summer reading program. Students complete a variety of library-related activities to check off bingo squares. These may include reading, but also include things like checking out a science fiction book, using library programs to learn a language and more. When students earn bingo they win a small prize and librarians will enter them into a raffle to win a grand prize basket, which includes a 3D pen.

The library will also host a variety of programs for teens. On Saturday July, 6 at noon, the library will open a new game lounge for teens. The lounge will include an Xbox Kinect with a big screen, and will continue through the summer. On July 24 and August 3 the library will host events to celebrate the game lounge, with snacks provided.

On July 9 teens can embrace their creative sides by painting some of the book ends that the library has collected starting at 6:30 p.m. Painters may keep the bookends, or donate them to the Student Lounge.

The crafty events will continue on July 23, with a screen printing workshop at 5:30 p.m. that will allow participants to print designs on fabric. The library will provide materials, but participants can supplement those materials if they have a particular design in mind. The library asks that interested participants sign up by July 16 to guarantee materials will be available.

The library will host a screening and movie discussion on “Hidden Figures” on July 24 at 6:30 p.m. Librarians will provide refreshments.

Inspired by food tastings, the library will host a book tasting on Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. to allow teens to see some of the new titles in the library’s collection. The event will also include refreshments.

The Mattapoisett Library will host one last crafty event on Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. to allow patrons to “Sharpie tye die” t-shirts. The library will provide materials, but participants may supplement library materials if they have a specific design in mind. Tye dyers should sign up by July 31
