Mattapoisett Library offers varied February events

MATTAPOISETT — Mattapoisett Free Public Library offers a variety of programs for children and teens in the final days of February.

Storytots continues on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. with short stories and songs for little ones. No registration is required.

The monthly graphic novel book club for children is meeting at 3:15 p.m. Feb. 17 to discuss “Anti/Hero’’ with its author, Kate Karyus Quinn. Snacks will be served. Registration is required as space is limited.

There is still time to sign up for the Quahog Book Awards. This program is for readers in third through sixth grades and runs through May 1. The Quahog Award Winner will be declared at a celebratory pizza party in May.

Readers are encouraged to sign up, select their books from one of four groups, and read as much as possible. Registration ends March 8. For additional information,visit the library’s website. 

Registered participants of the Quahog Book Award program are invited to attend a craft night at the library at 6 p.m. Feb. 23. Children must be registered participants to attend. Stop by the library for more information.

The final session of Dungeons and Dragons for young adult patrons will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19. Join the adventurers as they make their way through the weeds to see if they can figure out the secrets of the sunless citadel. New players are always welcome. Registration is required; the program is recommended for ages 12 and older. 

Teen Jeopardy Night is taking place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22. Teens will be challenged in categories such as movies, music, sustainability, among others. The ultimate prize goes to the final Jeopardy winner. No registration is required.

Bow Seat Awareness Programs presents “The Funny Thing about Climate Change’’ at 3 p.m. Feb. 24 on Zoom. 

Learn about the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs and how they are inspiring today's youth to use their words, art, and ingenuity to combat climate change. Bow Seat’s Program 

Manager Eric Carstens will discuss the power of creative communication, find inspiration from young artists worldwide, discuss examples of comedic climate communication and write collaborative poetry. He will also discuss their annual arts contest. 

This program is recommended for ages 11 and older. Register by Feb. 21.

The winter reading program for teens runs through March 26. There is a chance to win a $50 gift card. Patrons are welcome to participate on Beanstack or in paper form. Contact Michelle Skaar at mskaar@sailsinc.org with any questions.
