Mattapoisett Lions Club looks for more opportunities to serve town
Members of the Mattapoisett Lions Club met with the Selectmen on Tuesday to discuss upcoming events and ways the group and town might work together.
Treasurer Peter Hodges said he had been researching the history of the club, founded in 1953.
“The makeup of the club was a little different, but the club used to work closely with the town,” said Hodges.
Rather than give money for projects, Hodges said he would like to see the club be more hands on.
“If the town had a wish list, we could come up with some ideas from our club. I think it would do something to mend fences that have been broken in recent years,” he said.
President Don Bamberger also said the Lions Club would like to “think outside the box” and provide programs and speakers in town.
The Selectmen said they would be keep the Lions Club informed of ideas for projects. The Selectmen also approved the annual Harbor Days festival and triathlon in July as well as an Easter egg hunt on March 23.
