Mattapoisett mailboxes vandalized
Twelve mailboxes were vandalized on Ned’s Point Road early Monday morning.
“Someone was out being destructive,” Police Chief Mary Lyons said. “It appears [the mailboxes] were hit with a bat or a metal object.”
A Mattapoisett officer on patrol discovered the damaged property at approximately 2:45 a.m. Lyons said three mailboxes were thrown into the ocean near Pico Beach as well as a highway road sign.
Lyons said there are no suspects at this time. If caught, those responsible would face 12 charges of malicious destruction of property.
Aside from Monday’s incident, Lyons said there haven't’t been many reports of damaged property this summer.
“It has been relatively quiet regarding vandalism,” Lyons said.
Anyone with information regarding Monday’s incident should call Mattapoisett police at 508-758-4141.
