Mattapoisett Museum announces December events

Nov 29, 2021

There are a number of events scheduled this December at the Mattapoisett Museum.

On Friday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m., the Sounds of Silents series will continue. Southcoast Lessons students and teachers will accompany holiday-themed silent shorts. This event is free, but space is limited, so registration is encouraged.

On Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m., people of all ages are invited to attend Discovery Days. The one-hour program will allow people to make personal connections with artifacts and will include discussion, art-making, and multi-sensory activities facilitated by museum educators. This program is limited to 30 participants. Sign up online at mattapoisettmuseum.org.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, 11, and 18, join the museum for caroling in the village at 6 p.m. No singing experience is required, and all ages are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bundle up, dress in costumes, wear comfortable shoes, bring a flashlight, and an instrument if they’d like to. Hot cocoa will be on offer at the museum. No registration required.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, the museum will host a holiday fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include 12 artisans, a raffle, and free admission to the museum all day. There will also be new items in the museum’s gift shop. This event will be outdoors.

On Dec. 17 at 6 p.m., Southcoast Lessons will host an open mic night. All ages and genres of performance are welcome. Space is limited.

On Dec. 26 at 1 p.m., Southcoast Lessons will present an Old Time Fiddle Session. A gathering of traditional string band musicians will perform, and community members are welcome to join in with their own instruments or simply enjoy the show.

While all events are free, donations are appreciated.
