Mattapoisett to open polls earlier for town elections

Aug 6, 2014

The results of a recent online survey regarding the polling hours for town elections are in. (Drum roll, please.) And an overwhelming 92 percent voted 8 a.m.

“I guess they want to hit it before they go to their places of employment,” said Town Administrator Mike Gagne.

Around 60 people took the poll on the town’s website that went up on June. The options were to keep the annual town election opening time at 10 a.m., move it to 8 a.m. (the same as state and federal elections) or to move it to 9 a.m.

At a previous meeting, Town Clerk Catherine Heuberger said an earlier opening time would cost around $400 for the extra police detail and staffing hours.
