Mattapoisett will receive $154,043 under a new municipal fiber grant program that will assist communities with improving broadband connectivity, State Rep. Bill Straus, D-Mattapoisett, has announced 

A total of $13 million will be awarded under the program, which accepted applications for the first time in March. 

Grant money will be used on capital expenditures to increase connectivity between municipal assets in order to enhance operations and disaster recovery and resiliency. 

“We have seen during the past two years that both the public and private sectors rely heavily on broadband connections, and by targeting hardware upgrades, I believe these state funds will result in lasting network improvements for local governments," Straus said.
