Seahorse Summer Explorers

Mattapoisett Recreation is launching its second year of Seahorse Summer Explorers. The program runs for eight weeks, June 22 through Aug. 14, and is open to tri-town girls and boys entering grades one to six in September. Each week explorers will enjoy sports, arts and crafts, swimming, tennis, library visits and more.

Every week is a different theme with new activities and adventures. Director Kate Oleson is returning as are many of counselors. Program options include weekly full day ($170) or half day ($90) and choose your day ($40 full day or $30 half day). The early bird discounted registration deadline is April 25.

Summer Musical Theatre

Children will sign, dance and act in the musical “Frozen”. The program runs July 13 to  July 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at OHS Cafetorium. This program is designed for girls and boys ages 5 to 13. The performance will be held on the last day of class. The cost is $155 and registration is due by June 29.

Nature Explorers

In conjunction with the Marion Natural History Museum, children will explore some of Mattapoisett’s unique natural areas including Aucoot Beach, Mattapoisett River, Salt Marshes, Eel Pond and Ned’s Point. They will also visit with a local aquaculture operation, the harbormaster and shellfish officer. Each day they will participate in hands on exploration, experiments, crafts and journaling while being outdoors. This program is July 20 to 24 from 9 a.m. to noon and costs $125. Registration is due by July 6. The program is geared to children aged 8 to 11.

Tennis lessons

Join Mattapoisett Recreation and Jake Jaskolka to offer a four-week tennis program. Jaskolka is a Former Old Rochester Regional High School tennis captain and current UMass Dartmouth Tennis player. He is also an assistant tennis pro at Mattapoisett Casino tennis club.

Lessons will be held on Monday and Wednesday and will consist of instruction and game play. Co-ed lessons begin on July 13 with ages 5 to 8 at 5:30 p.m. and 9 and older at 6:30 p.m.

Swimming lessons

Swimming lessons will be held at the Mattapoisett Town Beach and taught by certified swimming instructors. Each weekly session is held Tuesday through Friday. All swimming testing will be done on the Monday of each week. Lessons start June 29.

Group lessons cost $30 per week and run from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., depending on level. Private lessons will be held at 9 a.m. and cost $125 for five lessons or $225 for 10 lessons. The registration deadline is June 15.
