Mattapoisett resident retires as Nye Lubricants president
MATTAPOISETT — Mattapoisett resident George Mock retired as president of Nye Lubricants after nearly 40 years of working at the company, according to a June 28 press release.
Mock began working at Nye in 1986 holding various positions in information technology, product development, operations and marketing before taking over the role of president from his father, George Mock Jr, in 2000. Now a company that employs nearly 200 people, Mock was one of Nye Lubricants’ earliest employees, according to the press release.
“It’s been a fantastic journey, bringing lubricant technology to critical applications in industry, from medical equipment and automotive components to semiconductor manufacturing and satellites,” said Mock. “It’s been a team effort throughout, and I thank the entire Nye team, past and present, for their dedication, tenacity, and good work.”
Nye Lubricants had been a family-owned business based in Fairhaven and run by the Mock family for three generations before it was acquired by the FUCHS Group in 2020.
The Mannheim, Germany-based FUCHS Group is the “world’s largest independent supplier” of specialty lubricants and grease “covering almost every industry and application,” according to the release.
“[Mock] and his family have left an invaluable legacy at Nye due in large part to [Mock’s] guidance and leadership,” said Keith Brewer, CEO of FUCHS Lubricants Co. “We plan to keep the spirit of the business alive as Nye continues to become integrated within the FUCHS organization.”
When he wasn’t running Nye Lubricants, Mock served as a former trustee of Tabor Academy, the Mattapoisett Land Trust, and the Lloyd Center for the Environment. He was also trustee of the New Bedford Whaling Museum and co-chair of the Capital Campaign at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
