Mattapoisett to resume work on master plan

Jul 20, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — The Planning Board will start work on the town’s Master Plan again after a several months hiatus.

The master plan surveys a variety of departments and stakeholders and make plans for how Mattapoisett will grow in the next years, offering specific recommendations to impacted areas. The town’s last master plan was done in 2000.

At a July 20 meeting, board members gave feedback on a new website for the plan, which is not yet available to the public.

The board sent out an inquiry in January to see which Mattapoisett residents were interested in weighing in on the master plan. It received about 20 responses. Now, members want to get the process moving again.

They briefly weighed also allowing department heads to join the committee, but decided to focus mostly on citizens, with chances for department heads to weigh in. The board will reach out to the people who had originally expressed an interest to see if they are still available and reach out to others who may have less going on with the pandemic and be more apt to contribute.
