MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Road Race is returning in 2023 with a new route. 

The race will take place on Tuesday, July 4 at 9 a.m.

The race still takes runners through Mattapoisett village and proceeds will still provide scholarships to local students, but the new course excludes the “unpleasant” stint on Route 6, and the last leg is now a straight line from Ned’s Point Light to the finish line — no more zig-zagging at the end of the race. Mattapoisett Road Race runners now run “Four on the fourth.”

Participants can register online at ww.mattapoisettroadrace.com/registration.html. There is a $25 registration fee. 

In person registration will be accepted on July 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. and on July 4 from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. for $35.
