Mattapoisett School Committee member gets new member
Selectmen welcomed Carter Hunt to the Mattapoisett School Committee on Tuesday evening. Hunt is finishing the term of Grace Knox, who stepped down earlier this year.
Hunt has three children in the school system and said his work as a hospital administrator would come in handy on the School Committee.
“I’m very familiar with reducing reimbursements on a regular basis and being asked to do things better with limited resources coming in,” said Hunt.
He added that he was impressed with the teachers and Center School Principal Rose Bowman. One of Hunt’s children has special needs and before moving to the area, several teachers drove in a snowstorm to observe his child.
“Certainly, if there’s something I can do to support, to give back…it’s a very valuable thing for me,” said Hunt.
Selectman Paul Silva asked if Hunt would run for election to the School Committee once his term was up.
“I am just dipping my toe in the water," said Hunt. "If I can be of support in the interim and if it’s something that works out in the future, that would be fantastic.”
