MATTAPOISETT — Selectmen approved a one-twelfth budget of approximately $4.95 million at a June 23 meeting to hold the town over for July. Selectmen can operate on a temporary budget for three months, and the budget is reassessed and reapproved every month.

The town chose to forego holding a Town Meeting in June and passing a yearly budget over uncertainty of state aid amidst what the Massachusetts Tax Association predicts as a 20% drop.

The budget covers the necessary costs to run the town, plus one-time expenses for the month of July such as contractual obligations.
