HAMILTON, Bermuda — Despite “fast-moving squalls and completely still air,” the skippers competing in the Marion-Bermuda Boat Race made their way to the island after setting off on Friday, June 16.

One Mattapoisett skipper, Dennish Walsh who captained the Leviathan, won the Beverly Family Trophy. This trophy is awarded to “the first family crewed yacht - with either five or more … members of a single household or family,” according to a Bermuda Boat Race press release.

The first boat to cross the finish line was the Boudicca with a time of two days, 17 hours, sixteen minutes and 14 seconds, setting a new race record previously held by the Lilla which competed in 2011.

The full race results can be found online at marionbermuda.com/mb/status/results.htm.

“Thirteen boats from the fleet retired during various points of the race due to either equipment issues or lack of wind,” read the boat race press release. “Some returned to Massachusetts, others continued under engine power to Bermuda.”
